Join us at Listen Hear for a night of musical exploration with The Haiga Duo along with Eric Salazar and Corey Denham.
Jason Chen and Eric Hollander have developed a unique timbral world from the combination of the viola, the accordion, and a truly extreme relationship with domestic themes. The ensemble’s current project combines a form of the ancient Japanese household game poetry, Renku, with the original concept of “Living room Music”.
For the sake of conceptual purity [a centerpiece for the duo], all of the music is composed collaboratively and performed with an immediate concern for live conditions. Music is nothing more,
and nothing less, than a natural form of communication. Like talking, it should take place in something like a living room. This specific project, developed over the month of June 2017 is inspired primarily by the films of Yasujiro Ozu.
Corey Denham and Eric Salazar are using this show as an opportunity to bring YOU butt-kicking indie-classical works for bass clarinet+drum-set. The night will feature a musical depiction of an ancient Indian riddle about cows, improvisations with acoustically created drones, and the premiere of Denham's new work "For the Mel" which takes concepts of punk rock and smashes them together with elements of Contemporary Classical music.
